#EssentialsGuarantee, Westminster Lobby Day

Millions of people across the UK are turning to food banks because Universal Credit simply isn’t covering the cost of essentials. This isn’t right. No one should be forced to choose between heating their home or feeding their family — but that’s the reality for too many.

But there is hope.

On the 18th June, Fionnuala, Joe and Stephen, alongside our valued partner Lorraine from Community Advice Antrim & Newtownabbey, travelled to Westminster to meet with our MP, Robin Swann. They shared their experiences and concerns, and most importantly, they had a meaningful and constructive discussion about the #EssentialsGuarantee.

The Essentials Guarantee is a campaign calling for a basic level of support in Universal Credit to ensure everyone can afford life’s essentials — like food, household bills and travel. It’s a step toward restoring dignity and security to those currently being failed by the system.

We are incredibly grateful to Trussell for organising this powerful and memorable event. It brought together voices from across the UK to demand change and to shine a spotlight on the everyday struggles people are facing.

With continued effort, collaboration and political will, we believe change is possible. Every voice matters, and together, we can help build a future where no one has to rely on a food bank.
